How Theophilous Washington a Pennsylvania college student sought to poison his pregnant girlfriend with bleach cause he didn’t want her to have his baby.
Theophilous Washington a 20 year old Millersville University student has been charged with attempted murder after spiking his pregnant girlfriend’s glass of water with bleach.
The man’s arrest came authorities determined that the Washington DC native had poisoned his pregnant girlfriend’s glass of water in an attempt to abort the fetus.
Upon his arrest, the student who was attending college in rural Pennsylvania was charged with criminal attempt to commit first degree murder of an unborn child and reckless endangering.
Told District Attorney Craig Stedman in a statement on Friday: ‘The charges are twisted and the intended result nothing short of horrifying.’
Matters came to a head when Theophilous Washington and his girlfriend, who is two months pregnant and a fellow student were at his home on Thursday.
When she was about to leave on Friday morning to return to her dorm, authorities said he offered her a drink of water that had been stashed in the refrigerator.
After she drank the water, she returned to her room and began to feel a burning sensation in her throat.
She started vomiting and eventually called 911.
In interviews with police, Washington acknowledged putting bleach in the water bottle from which his girlfriend drank, prosecutors said.
‘Washington, the father of the child, admitted to putting bleach in the water bottle,’ prosecutors said. ‘He had stated previously that he did not want the female to have the child.’
A doctor’s examination determined that the girlfriend and the fetus were unharmed, according to the district attorney.
Reacting to the incident, Brian Hazlett, Millersville’s vice president of student affairs and enrollment management, called it ‘a horrible, unconscionable event.’
Reiterated the school administrator in a statement: ‘It is very disturbing to me personally because I consider our students to be our family,’
‘Our thoughts and prayers are with the victim and we’re doing everything we can to make sure she is OK.’
Yet to be understood is why the boyfriend failed to use proper contraceptive precaution.
Theophilous Washington remains in custody on $1million bail pending a November 4 preliminary hearing.
Court documents don’t list a defense attorney who could respond to the charges and a listed phone number for him could not be found Saturday.
The investigation is ongoing and additional charges could be filed.
