In new developments surrounding the murder trial of former American Idol star, Caleb Flynn, prosecutors revealed that days after wife, Ashley Flynn being murdered, investigators uncovered that she may have been aware of another woman in her husband’s life.
Church intern initially denied affair to married worship pastor
Dayton Police Detective Zachary Farkas testified on Tuesday that investigators first became aware of confirmed mistress, Alleigha Botner, 24, on February 19— three days after Ashley’s murder — after receiving information from Ashley’s aunt.
That tip led investigators to begin speaking with Ashley’s friends according to testimony televized on Court TV.
One of those friends was Alexa Vagedes, who told investigators that Ashley had previously confided in her about a possible relationship between her husband, Caleb Flynn, a Dayton, Ohio church worship pastor and Botner.
Special Agent Deamron testified that she and Farkas interviewed Botner at the Tipp City Police Department the following day, February 20. The interview lasted approximately two and a half hours.
According to testimony, Botner initially denied having any relationship with Caleb Flynn. She also denied ever having a sexual or intimate relationship with him.
Deamron testified that she and Farkas interviewed her for a second time at the Tipp City Police Department on February 26. This time, Botner had an attorney present where she continued to deny being involved with Caleb Flynn.

Married Tipp City husband allegedly confessed to mistress ‘hating wife’
Botner taking the stand on Wednesday has since rescinded those claims, admitting having a nearly two years long relationship with Flynn, first platonically as a church intern at Christian Life Center in Dayton, Ohio, before it becoming physical in 2024. Botner according to testimony allegedly ending things in January, 2026, a month before Ashley’s slaying.
As their illicit relationship bloomed, Botner testified that Caleb, a worship pastor confided hating his wife, only staying in their marriage for the sake of their two pre-teen daughters. The couple’s relationship over the course of Caleb’s involvement with Botner would continue to deteriorate amid marital tensions.
During investigations, detectives also uncovered evidence suggesting Ashley herself knew — or at least suspected — that something was happening between her husband and Botner.
Testimony referenced a text message indicating there had been contention between Ashley and Botner who by now had become ingrained in the Flynn’s family life as the active Tipp City family embraced their church.
Days after suspecting Botner being involved with Caleb Flynn, Botner spoke to investigators, who characterized her relationship with Ashley as cordial. But was it?
During Wednesday’s testimony, Botner revealed that she and Flynn would call his wife ‘spawn of satan, b**** and douchebag’ as they discussed his relationship. The pair according to the mistress would regularly meet for sex in his truck at a Chipotle parking lot, and even got matching tattoos.
Botner got her tattoo on her arm but Caleb got it in his armpit so Ashley wouldn’t be able to see it, she told the court.

Further damning testimony included Botner stating that on several occasions in their nearly two-year affair, Caleb expressed his intent to kill Ashley.
Botner alleged at least every week, Caleb would talk about wanting Ashley out of his life and that he said he would kill her if he could figure out a way to do it and not go to jail.
Botner’s testimony echoed allegations made by prosecutors, who say Caleb texted Botner that he was ‘trying to think of ways to kill’ Ashley.
‘If I could literally kill her and not go to hell, I would do it in a heartbeat. That is how dark and how hateful I feel,’ he allegedly wrote in on exchange, prosecutors previously said.
Botner also said she had given Caleb deadlines to leave Ashley but he would not meet them, saying he did not want to hurt his daughters.
In January 2026, Botner told him it was ‘his last chance’ before she moved on and was ‘completely done’ with him, she testified. She then stopped communicating with him until Feb. 14, two days before Ashley’s killing.

Prosecutors have pointed to the alleged affair between Flynn and the church worker and their more than 100,000 back and forth texts as motivating reasons why the former American Idol star would’ve wanted his wife, Ashley dead so that he could then continue his affair with Botner uninhibited after the mistress giving him an ultimatum.

Flynn, 40, has pleaded not guilty on all charges against him, maintaining that a home intruder killed his wife while he slept with the pair’s two pre-teen daughters in a room just feet away.
Botner has insisted that she knew nothing of her lover’s alleged plans nor of any intent to allegedly murder wife, Ashley. The former lover insisted that their affair lasted two years and finished well before Ashley’s murder in early 2026.
Just months later, following Ashley’s slaying, Botner who’d become the subject of rampant speculation, resigned from her post at Christian Life Center in Dayton, Ohio.
