Sarasota shooting linked to Fort Lauderdale double homicide hours earlier

An initial report via WTSP stated the suspected shooter who killed the four victims being connected to a double homicide discovered in Fort Lauderdale the same day.

At around 1:30 p.m., Tuesday, Fort Lauderdale police conducted a welfare check at a townhome in the upscale Victoria Park neighborhood on the 500 block of Northeast 15th Street, finding two people dead inside. The victims were identified as 46-year-old Larisa Blyudaya and 18-year-old Ben Azizov.

Fort Lauderdale police said they believed the killings were connected because the suspect’s car was caught on camera driving northbound through Punta Gorda before arriving at the Sarasota gated residence just on 11 a.m.

Preliminary information shows that the suspect had been in a previous romantic relationship with Blyudaya. The Fort Lauderdale victims were connected to the victims in the Sarasota shooting.

The Sarasota County Sheriff’s Office responded to the home, located at 4822 Fall Crest Circle near the intersection of Proctor Road and McIntosh Road, after receiving a 911 call from a neighboring resident at approximately 12:24 p.m. Deputies arrived on scene within five minutes and quickly secured the area according to 10 Tampa Bay News.

No known motive as investigators seek to corroborate evidence and time line

At the time of the shooting, responding authorities stated discovering multiple victims inside the home and that no survivors were found after coming across a male victim on the front lawn (who later died of their gunshot injuries). The male victim was later identified as Tony Ioffe, the Sarasota homeowner of where the shootings took place.

Inside the home, deputies found the bodies of two men and two women. The sheriff’s office said the suspect was among the dead inside the residence, MySunCoast reported.

The man found in the front lawn was seen on video entering the neighborhood in his vehicle, investigators said. He approached the front door, where he was shot. No one was seen entering or leaving the residence until deputies arrived.

‘We do have multiple victims in the house, and our crime scene forensics team is in there now conducting preliminary investigations,’ a sheriff’s office spokesperson said during a Tuesday press briefing.

Authorities seek to link shootings and motives in Ft Lauderdale and in Sarasota

The home had been the subject of two previous police calls, though officials said it did not appear to be a residence of suspicious nature or one that routinely required police services.

Detectives are currently interviewing witnesses and neighbors while reviewing potential surveillance footage, including recordings from residential security and doorbell cameras, in an effort to establish a timeline of events and determine what led to the shooting.

Residents in the normally quiet neighborhood described the gated community as safe and said incidents of this magnitude are highly unusual for the area.

‘The suspect’s motivation for targeting the Sarasota victims is unknown,’ the sheriff’s office wrote.
