The identity of the victim, described as a male in his 30’s nor the assailant who fled the scene was not immediately known or released.

Gunfire erupted after the victim and an unidentified man, engaged in some type of dispute on the northbound platform. The nature of the dispute which also involved a third man, remained unclear.

The nytimes reported the shooter becoming embroiled in an argument with the victim and a second man on the northbound E platform, with the shooter then firing at the first man he had engaged in a dispute with.

It remained unclear if all three men knew each other. The whereabouts of the shooter was unknown, with cops yet to make an arrest.

Police stated that the shooting was ‘targeted.’

‘Nothing random between these two individuals,’ a NYPD spokesperson told the nypost.

2 gunshots fired on northbound E train platform

An E train had pulled up to the platform and opened its doors just moments before the shooting occurred, with one witness recalling hearing two ‘pops’ eight seconds apart, sending straphangers into a frenzy.

‘Everybody was running,’ Mauricio Marroquin told the nypost.

‘I seen a gentleman laying right in front,’ Marroquin said of the victim. ‘He was dressed in a blazer, looked like he was coming from work or something, bro. Going to work or coming from work. It was two shots, man. He only got hit with one, like, that’s weird. And they were eight seconds apart, man. That’s weird.’

Marroquin said several bystanders surrounded the victim, one of whom began chest compressions until EMS arrived and another who held the injured man’s hand.

‘Another gentleman was just talking to him, like, ‘Hey, man, wake up, wake up, stay up, stay up, stay up,” said Marroquin.

Police are searching for the suspect, who was last seen wearing a red tracksuit, black puffer vest and what appeared to be a black balaclava, security footage shows.

NYC subway crime

MTA Chief Security Officer Michael Kemper released a statement Saturday saying,

‘Guns have no place in transit which is why we’ve strongly supported New York State’s legal fight to make sure it’s illegal to carry them in the subway system. This was evidently a dispute between three individuals that ended tragically, and we have coordinated with the NYPD on the investigation from the earliest minutes — especially to retrieve video from platform and train car cameras. The perpetrators will be caught and should face maximum consequences from the justice system. It is fortunate nobody outside the fight was hurt.’

The shooting marks the seventh murder in the New York City transit system so far this year.

Transit murders are up 75% compared to the same period last year, which saw just four, according to data through Sunday.

As of Oct. 11, there have been 1,697 crimes in the transit system since the start of the year, 27 more than the same period in 2025, according to the Police Department. Felony assaults, including those against police officers and M.T.A. employees, and thefts have driven crime up, the police said. Officers have made 51 gun arrests in the system this year, the highest number since they began recording such data.

Still, this year remains the second safest in the transit system in 15 years, not including the pandemic years when ridership was especially low.
