Remains found likely that of Bexar County teen, Camila Mendoza Olmos with brother’s missing gun as 19 year old teen girl struggled with depression and thoughts of suicide.
Texas authorities on Wednesday stated that human remains found in a field were highly likely those of missing 19-year-old Bexar County teen Camila Mendoza Olmos.
The update follows Tuesday’s grim discovery of a body that appeared to have been in the field for five or six days, according to Bexar County Sheriff Javier Salazar. The missing teen’s body was found close to her family home in Bexar County, San Antonio.
‘Although it is still too early to definitively say it is her, the body that we found, or what happened to that body that caused the death, I feel personally, feel strongly, that it is her,’ Sheriff Salazar said in a Facebook Live video Wednesday. ‘Certainly a heartbreaking case.’
Camila Olmos last moments
Officials had previously searched the field roughly 250 yards from Olmos’ home, but returned after learning they missed some parts due to the high brush in the area.
Camila Olmos was reported missing by her family after she failed to return from a Christmas Eve morning walk. At the time of her disappearance last Wednesday the teen had set out at 7 a.m. Only to never return.
Video footage of Olmos, who had hoped to become an orthodontist, showed her wearing pajama shorts and a black hoodie, rummaging through her car on Christmas Eve, the day she vanished. It wasn’t known what Olmos was looking for. Of note, the teen left the family home without her cellphone.
At the time of her disappearance, the teen’s brother’s 9mm Luger pistol had also been reported missing. A gun found close to the teen’s body was confirmed to be the same one that was taken from the house, FOX News reported.
Depression, thoughts of suicide and brothers missing gun
Leading up to her disappearance, Sheriff Salazar cited family member who said the teen had been experiencing depression and thoughts of suicide after struggling with school, work and a relationship that had recently ended.
Added the sheriff, ‘it appeared she ‘was a young person going through a very tough time in her life.’
The official stated that the clothing worn by the unidentified individual matched the description of what Camila Mendoza Olmos was last seen wearing.
It is understood the 19-year-old had recently broken up with her boyfriend. The break up was previously as reported as being mutual.
