A New Mexico mother accused of locking her 15 year old daughter in a chicken coop ‘for long periods’ of time was shot dead just days after she was arrested.
Patricia Madrid, 36, of Farmington, N.M, was found by police on Wednesday, February 26, after notice of a shooting at the woman’s home.
The Farmington Police Department according to a Facebook release responded to the home around 8am and located Madrid unresponsive. Madrid was taken to San Juan Regional Medical Center where she later died from her injuries.
Chicken coop child abuse & torture
Police have not yet arrested a suspect in the shooting, but surveillance footage captured a hooded person in a wooded area near the home on the 1000 block of Auburn Avenue.
The suspect is believed to have left the scene on a bike. To date no arrests have been made in connection to the homicide.
Madrid and her husband, Jammy Jackson, 59, were arrested on February 18 after Child Protective Services received reports that they left their 15-year-old daughter alone inside a chicken coop for long periods of time, police said.
The teen told police that she would be left there even during extreme weather, and would only be allowed to use the restroom twice a day.
The child was also fed a package of ramen noodles, while her sibling’s were allowed to have what they wanted, KRQE reported.
Madrid and Jackson were charged with seven counts of felony child abuse and seven felony charges of conspiracy to commit child abuse.
The couple were both released from San Juan County Adult Detention Center following their arrest.
Their teenage daughter who allegedly suffered from their abuse was removed from the home after police confirmed her allegations, Law & Crime reported.
Farmington police continue to investigate Madrid’s shooting death.
