Oroville school shooting at Feather River School of Seventh-Day Adventists in Palermo, California leads to gunman shooting self dead, two students wounded. No known motive.

A suspected gunman is dead, and two students are in the hospital following a shooting at a small Seventh-day Adventist school in California.

The gunfire broke out at the Feather River School of Seventh-Day Adventists in Palermo just after 1pm, local time.

When deputies with the Butte County Sheriff’s Office arrived at the scene they found a male gunman with a self-inflicted wound. Two students with gunshot wounds were taken to the hospital, one by helicopter KCRA reported.

Christian school shooting: no known motive

The school describes itself as a Christian faith based elementary school with an enrolment of only 33 students, under the supervision of five teachers.

Classes range from kindergarten to eighth grade.

Officials stated that students were taken to nearby Oroville Church of Nazarene at 2238 Monte Vista Ave. Parents were asked to arrive there to be reunited with their children, the Sacramento Bee reported.

The campus is located just off Highway 70, east of Gridley and south of Oroville and Palermo, roughly 60 miles north of Sacramento.

It remains unclear whether the gunman had any connection to the Christian school and what led to the shooter allegedly targeting the school.

The ages and conditions of the victims have not been released.

‘The suspected shooter is deceased,’ the Butte County Sheriffs Office said in a statement.

The religious school advertises itself as intending to give a ‘spiritually oriented education for children.’
