Jovana Morales and Tamy Carmelo id as the two Albertville, Alabama high school girls killed in crash last week at the hands of teen driver, Yeismin Ramirez, alleged to have been under the influence of alcohol and speeding as she now faces charges.
Alabama authorities have released the identities of two high school teen girls killed last week in a car crash after the 18 year old driver of their vehicle — under the influence of alcohol — was involved in a single car crash that led to her two passengers killed and a third injured.
Yeismin Ramirez of Albertville was behind the wheel on Wednesday, circa 7.45am when the 2015 Nissan Altima that she was driving left the road and struck a tree stump, a sign post and then a fence on Blessing Road near Arley Lacey Road, approximately two miles north of Boaz, in Marshall County.
Following her arrest on Thursday, Marshall County Assistant DA, Adam Culbert announced Ramirez would be charged with manslaughter and two counts of assault, WHNT reported.
Prosecutors allege alcohol and excessive speed contributed to the cause of the crash, WTVA reported.
Identified as the fatal victims in the crash on Monday were 15-year-old Jovana Morales and 13-year-old Tamy Carmelo according to Marshall County coroner Cody Nugent, WAAF reported.
An un-named 15 year old girl was also injured. All three girls were not wearing seatbelts AL.com reported. Ramirez, the vehicle’s driver who was also injured, was taken to a hospital. It was later divulged that she had also not been wearing a seat belt at the time of the crash.
It remained unclear how Ramirez came to be drinking and whether her passengers had also been drinking in the Wednesday morning crash.
All four individuals involved in the crash were students within the Albertville City Schools, rocketcitynow reported.
Morales was set to be buried at Memorial Hill Cemetery on Monday, according to her obituary. A GoFundMe has been set up to help her family.
“Jovana touched the hearts of many with her vibrant spirit and kind heart. Her memory will forever live on in the hearts of all who knew her,” read part of the GoFundMe set up for the family.
A GoFundMe has also been set up for Carmelo’s family. The fundraiser said Carmelo’s passing “left a void in the hearts of our family, friends, and classmates.”
Ramirez remains in the Marshall County Jail.
