Colt Gray Apalachee shooter was investigated by the FBI over 2023 school shooting threats and was being monitored with the then 13 year old denying having made the threats.

Colt Gray, the alleged teen gunman who shot and killed four people at a Georgia high school, was reportedly investigated by the FBI last year following the then 13 year old student making threats to shoot up a school online.

Gray had been on the FBI’s radar since last year — when he was interviewed in connection to online school shooting threats, the bureau revealed (see tweet below).

In May 2023, the FBI’s National Threat Operations Center received several tips about online threats to commit a school shooting at an unidentified location and time, the post read.

School was alerted for continued monitoring

The threats contained images of guns and the FBI determined that the posts originated in Georgia, specifically in Jackson County. The FBI turned over the evidence to the Jackson County Sheriff‘s office, which then interviewed Gray and his father, who said that he had hunting guns in the house but Gray did not have access to them.

The Jackson County Sheriffs’ Office located Gray and interviewed him and his father.

His dad said he had hunting guns in the house — but Gray didn’t have unsupervised access to them, according to the statement.

Gray also denied making online threats according to the nypost

Gray was monitored after being interviewed, but ‘there was no probable cause for arrest or to take any additional law enforcement action on the local, state or federal levels,’ according to the FBI.

Officials alerted local schools ‘for continued monitoring’ of Gray, per the statement.

Of note, Apalachee High School is in Barrow County and not a part of Jackson County schools or any city schools within Jackson County. It is uncertain whether Gray attended a school in Jackson County (or did he…?) before moving into the Barrow County School District.

On September 4, 2024, the Georgia Bureau of Investigation confirmed that 14-year-old Colt Gray was under arrest, charged in the murder of two students and two teachers at Apalachee High School.
