Kalyna Laraye Young, Johnson City, Tennessee mother charged with attempted murder after driving into lake with toddler daughter inside vehicle. 

A Tennessee mother has been charged with attempted murder after she allegedly drove into a lake with her 2 year old toddler child inside the car over the weekend.

Kalyna Laraye Young, 21, of Johnson City, also faces charges of reckless endangerment, driving under the influence, and aggravated child abuse and neglect, the Washington County Sheriff’s Office stated in a Facebook release.

Young is alleged to have driven her automobile into Boone Lake on Saturday with her 2-year-old child in the car. Witnesses called 911 and pulled the parent and the toddler out of the vehicle prior to the arrival of authorities.

No known motive

Deputies determined that she intentionally drove into the lake.

Young was taken to the Washington County Detention Center, where she is being held without bond. She is expected to make a first court appearance Monday afternoon.

Of note, Young has no previous criminal history with the Washington County Sheriff’s Office, Public Information Officer Susan Saylor said.

The child has been released into the custody of a family member.

No known motive was immediately known.
