Joshua Goff charged after body of Rebecca Maxfield, missing Tennessee woman found in cornfield amid questions as to cause and manner of woman’s death.
A Tennessee man has been arrested after a missing woman’s body was found in a cornfield in DeKalb County.
Joshua Wayne Goff was charged with abuse of a corpse and tampering with evidence in connection with the death of 29-year-old Rebecca Maxfield, of Smithville, who’d gone missing earlier this month.
Maxfield was reported missing on Sunday, Aug. 4 after the woman failing to respond to repeated calls and texts.
Cause and manner of death yet to be determined
‘A missing persons report was filed with the Smithville Police Department on Aug. 4 in which a friend stated she (Maxfield) had not responded back to them for a couple of days,’ said DeKalb County Sheriff Patrick Ray and Smithville Police Chief Mark Collins.
Maxfield’s body was found days later on August 9th by a Warren County investigator inside a vehicle in a cornfield along new Bildad Road. It wasn’t until last week that the body was positively identified as that of missing woman, Rebecca Maxfield, WKRN reported.
According to a release from the Warren County Sheriff’s Dept, investigators discovered Maxfield’s phone had pinged in Warren County where she was last seen.
An arrest report later revealed that Goff found Maxfield deceased inside a vehicle and waited two days before moving her body to the cornfield on New Bildad Road.
Goff was taken into custody Monday and booked into the Warren County jail. His bond was set at $60,000. An update on FB, indicated bond being raised to $1M following a Monday morning court appearance. It remained unclear if there were additional charges pending against Goff.
The investigation into Maxfield’s death is ongoing. The manner and cause of the missing woman’s death was pending an autopsy.
