Suicide? Amina Alhaj-Omar missing Ohio State University graduate student found dead in remote quarry as cops have yet to establish cause of death. No suspects or arrests pending. OSU student was grappling with mental health issues. 

An Ohio State University graduate student who vanished last month was found dead last week in a remote quarry, according to officials and her family.

The body of Amina Alhaj-Omar, 25, was found Wednesday, her family said, according to WCMH.

The remains were discovered in a quarry behind a BP gas station where she was last spotted, her family added.

How did OSU student come to end up at remote quarry? 

Columbus police told of finding the missing woman’s remains in ‘remote area.’ Police had ye to determine how the missing woman came to die. 

‘We are devastated by our immense loss, but we also thank God every single day for blessing us with the privilege of knowing and loving her beautiful soul for the last twenty-five years,’ Alhaj-Omar’s family wrote in an obituary.

Omar who was a graduate student at Ohio State went missing on June 10.

While her initial disappearance set off a frantic search, it was suspended 19 days later after all leads were exhausted, authorities said at the time, according to WCMH.

‘While the investigation is still ongoing, the active search for Miss Omar has concluded,’ police had said.

Alhaj-Omar graduated from Ohio State with a bachelor’s degree in criminology before she began her graduate-level studies in social work, the Columbus Dispatch reported.

Relatives previously said that police thought she might’ve gone into the quarry pond. Her jacket, shoes and cellphone were all found on the property, her sister said last month. A previous report told of surveillance capturing the woman trespassing in the quarry area. 

The missing woman’s vehicle was found nearby with what appeared to be signs of a minor crash. Police at the time surmised Omar possibly having two knives with her after surveillance video from the gas station showed her carrying two knives. It wasn’t until two hours later that Amina left the area WBNS-TV reported.

About two hours after she was spotted at the gas station, Amina was spotted walking near a quarry. Police were called however she had already left the area.

Was missing OSU student grappling with mental health issues? 

Amina’s family said she ‘worked hard to pursue her admirable dream of fighting for people.’

‘Most people who truly knew Amina immediately remember her laugh – it was contagious and brought happiness to everyone in the room,’ her obituary states.

‘She had a way of making people feel comfortable and welcomed in any situation. Her personality was simply beautiful – a bubbly, shy, caring, funny, and loving human being inside and out.’

Authorities did not disclose of any suspects or any pending arrests. To date it remained unclear if Amina may have taking her own life and whether she was grappling with mental health issues.
