Frans Maela murders Tanya Wiers. How did a South African mother come to be brutally murdered? Police decry the crime as one of the most grisliest on record.
Tanya Wiers a 45 year old mother has died in a home invasion robbery in what South African police described as one of the most grisliest crimes on record.
A report via the Bosveld Review told of the woman suffering a total of 21 stab wounds, her naked body strewn inside her daughter’s bedroom, with her eyes gouged out.
Mortal injuries included stab wounds along the woman’s neck and under her chin, with Wiers’ eyes cut out of their socket with a knife.
The woman also displayed numerous defensive wounds, the result of what police believe was the woman fighting for her life. The bedroom in which she was found strewn with her blood.
The crime told police occurred in the town of Polokwane, about 150 miles north of Pretoria on February the 9th.
Notice of the crime came after the woman’s teenage son, Rolf returned home where he came across his deceased mother.
Told a family friend: ‘I went into the house, thinking she might have died from a heart attack. What I saw was like something out of a horror movie’.
‘She was lying in her youngest daughter’s room covered by a duvet beside the bed. It was clear that there had been a struggle as the bed was not where it used to be in the room.’
Added the family friend who insisted on remaining anonymous: ‘Tanya’s clothing was lying in front of the closet in her and her husband’s room. The closet doors were still open and it is evident someone had searched through’.
Arrested was 25 year local man, Frans Maela who was arrested later that day and charged with murder after police found Wiers’ stolen property on his possession.
Police now expect more arrests to follow.
‘This is the most gruesome thing I’ve ever seen. I can’t think that there will ever be anything worse. It was evident that the victim put up the fight of her life, there was so much blood and her defensive wounds tell their own horrifying story,’ a police spokesperson, Brig. Motlafela Mojapelo, told the Bosveld Review.
It is unclear how the mother came to be targeted and what led to Maela so brutally murdering his victim.
A memorial service for the mother will be held on Tuesday at AFM Terberna Dei Mother Campus Polokwane.
