Billy Reid, winner of several prestigious awards, including the CFDA/ Vogue Fashion Fund, held his Spring 2012 presentation this past Friday night. Set in a Milk Studio forum, textures were light—serene, angelic and sporty. The layered look was definitely the show’s highlight, while hand made shoes, textiles and shirts made frequent appearances. Button downs, henleys, trousers, selvedges—a voile popover, dinner jackets, suits and a trench diversified and broadened the collection.

Billy Reid’s spring 2012 line exudes comfort, for the down-to earth- man or woman. Rust, dirty, washed out and natural linens, canvas and cotton button downs, cotton double-breasted jackets, canvas pants, t-shirts and mid top sneakers were commonplace, as were exotic animal derived footwear. Shoes, a notable accessory of Reid’s collection, ranged from wedges for the ladies to espadrilles, wingtips, sneakers and hand loomed carpet hand-made sandals for the gentlemen. Models all had long, wavy highlighted hair—and many wore beards and or facial scruff.

One female model wore a hand cut prairie skirt, while another sported a white linen dolman dress, paired with grey goat suede hand-stitched bikini, and wedge. My favorite was the linen panama stripe jumpsuit, which accentuates the female form remarkably well.
