Shakira may have once sung about how our hips don’t lie, but having fat ones sure do increase memory loss, according to a study done by scientists at Northwestern University. They found that women who continue packing on the pounds, specifically in their hips and thighs, as they get older are more likely to perform crappy on tests of memory and reasoning.

The study was published in the Journal of the American Geriatrics Society. It looked at 9,000 post-menopausal women aged 65-79, which in my opinion shouldn’t even want to gain weight at that age because they’re practically going to be too tired to want to work out anyways.
Scientists found that for every point gained in a woman’s BMI, her memory score dropped by one point. And women with small waists and big hips scored poorly.
Lead researcher, Dr. Diana Kerwin remarked, “We need to find out if one kind of fat is more detrimental than the other, and how it affects brain function…The fat may contribute to the formation of plaques associated with Alzheimer’s disease or a restricted blood flow to the brain.”

I guess you can be fat and happy, but ladies if you keep eating those burgers and fries, you’ll also be fat and stupid.
