The models were styled with long, crimped hair, vibrant red lips, defined brows and an otherwise clean face. The look was unmistakably old Hollywood, and the hats, designed by the famed Patricia Underwood (again, doing something right) looked to be straight out of a Brooklyn vintage clothing store. Of course, that begs the question: why not buy them from a Brooklyn vintage clothing store?

The clothes, however, evoked the Golden Age of the Silver Screen at every turn, while keeping a foot firmly planted in the door of modernity. Velvet, sequins and chiffon were prevalent, but the designs were clean and not at all fussy. Another reoccurring phenomenon was white shirtdresses with bright piping. Berardi is a young designer, only 23, but the cohesiveness of his show and the quality of his construction belied his age. In particular, a one shoulder polka dotted draped dress with an overlay of tulle indicated a designer whose name will be heard for many years to come. It was one of those dresses that would look good on anyone: not just an underfed teenager.
