Russell Brand has gone on tape to suggest that the real reason he and his former wife Katy Perry split had more to do with lifestyle issues.
Reflected the comedian: ‘Sometimes it goes well, sometimes it don’t, but if you sort of sense there’s an incompatibility, then in any relationship regardless of the status of the individual, it kind of is best to go separate ways.’
Speaking to Australia’s 60 Minutes Brand then goes to say he believes people should date those with similar interests for the best chance of long-term compatibility.
‘I think if you’re someone who’s really into mountain biking, it would be good to go out with someone else who’s into mountain biking, and if you’re really into Eastern mysticism, go out with someone else who into Eastern mysticism.’
But it’s here were his comments become extremely interesting which has now fostered debate as to what he actually meant and if in some way he was taking a jab at Perry:
‘I think if you’re a devoted tennis professional and you get married to a crystal meth addict, you might have trouble… I’ve been in a lot of trouble.’
Crystal meth addict? That’s a harsh and rather abrupt analogy, especially for a man who spent years being a drug addict himself. One is wanton to wonder if he was somehow referring to himself, Katy Perry, his desire not to be brought back into the influence given Perry’s high profile engagements or just simply being banal and controversial knowing full well that us media types would swallow it whole.
Then there was this comment from the web which caught my eye as well:
Well Katy Perry might not be a tennis pro, but I could believe he was a crystal meth addict. He’s a disgusting, grubby dirty creature.
