“Sociable” Garance Dore and the Sartorialist’s Scott Schuman: Famous fashion bloggers

The second half of the seminar was spent discussing the trick of advertising. They emphasized that brands like to advertise on sites that represent their core values, ‘Brands like my honesty and want to invest in it—they need to know that they’re talking to a person…’ says Scott. The trick is finding brands that sponsor the blogger’s artistic expression; it’s giving them something with which to associate and user-generated runs the risk of detracting the site from representing their core values.

Scott and Garance both believe blogs will continue to evolve and underline the importance of bloggers realizing that brands have so much to defend. This is why they came to the Sartorialist in the first place, so at the end of the day bloggers must think of themselves as working for the brands and not vice versa.

At the end, Garance and Scott opened their dialogue to questions from the audience. Garance’s ‘eye for beauty,’ pictures, and videos have attracted people around the world and Burberry brand to her blog: “Our blog is a mix of quality, editing and passion and that’s what differentiates us,” she says.
