Alex Jeffrey Pretti, Minneapolis, Minnesota nurse shot dead by DHS federal agents shows 37-year-old man with no gun in his possession as he is fired upon multiple times. Department of Homeland allege man interfered during ‘targeted’ operation and that agents feared for their life as new video raises ‘troubling’ questions.
Federal officials have claimed that a Minneapolis man shot dead during a ‘targeted operation’ to round up an illegal alien interfered, leading to 37-year-old veterans nurse being fatally shot as federal agents with the Homeland Security Department descending on the scene according to new video angles.
Footage shared on social media shows a new angle of Saturday morning’s incident — which began as whistle-blowing protesters in the street look on as about six federal agents pushed a man later identified as Alex Jeffrey Pretti to the ground.
Videos contradicts DHS claims Alex Pretti was a threat
Leading up to the confrontation which soon turned physical, Pretti was seen ‘documenting’ the unfolding scene on the streets with his cellphone only to then intercede as a female protester was being sprayed by federal agents.
In newly shared video of the unfolding scene, a woman is heard saying, ‘What the f–k is wrong with you?’
‘What the f–k, people? What the f–k is wrong with you?’
It wasn’t immediately clear who the woman was referencing. Agents then swarmed Pretti — who was shot in the chaos — as they wrestled him onto the icy street before an immigration officer grabbed his gun off him before a dozen shots being unleashed.
The woman filming the scene screamed, ‘What the f–k did you do?!,’ as Pretti lays motionless.
The video showed ICE officers backing away, with some still aiming their guns at the 37-year-old, before slowing approaching him.
‘Oh my God, Oh my God! What the f–k did you just do?’ the horrified woman yelled repeatedly, according to the footage. ‘Why did you do that?!’

Border Patrol chief defends fatal shooting of Minneapolis nurse
Even more graphic up close video was released late Saturday. Read the post of the graphic video (not shared only above lead image screen shots): ‘In the video, you can clearly see an agent grab Alex’s legal firearm out of his holster.
That is the only time the gun is removed. And Alex never touched it. They then yelled, “he has a gun!” and shot him, while he was completely unarmed. Alex never drew his firearm. Alex never threatened anyone. Alex never even tried to reach for it as he was being violent assaulted.
He was not a threat, he was unarmed, and they shot him…And they kept firing into his motionless, unarmed body.
They executed a U.S. citizen for legally carrying a firearm.
Did federal agents respond disproportionately?
Tensions flared as law enforcement tried to secure the area around West 26th Street and Nicollet Ave in South Minneapolis Saturday morning — where Pretti was pronounced dead at the scene.
The Department of Homeland Security said Pretti had approached US Border Patrol officers with a 9 mm semi-automatic handgun.
Nevertheless video and screenshots appeared to challenge those claims with Pretti at no point appearing to handle the legally concealed gun on his person. Commentators on social media allege captured screenshots showing the man’s gun being taken away and fired upon by an agent leading to another agent firing a hail of bullets in response.
‘The officers attempted to disarm the suspect but the armed suspect violently resisted,’ DHS said in a release, late Saturday morning.
‘Fearing for his life and the lives and safety of fellow officers, an agent fired defensive shots.’
3rd fatal shooting in Minneapolis during immigration sweeps
The episode has since re-ignited accusations of federal agency heavy handed behavior and claims of egregious use of state violence.
The shooting marks the third recent incident involving federal agents in Minneapolis. It follows the fatal shooting of Renee Nicole Good, a US citizen, on January 7, and another incident in which a federal agent wounded a man about a week later.
Minneapolis has faced rising tensions amid the federal enforcement presence and ongoing protests – a backdrop shaped by prior high‑profile police killings, including killing of George Floyd at the hands of police, which eventually led to a murder conviction.
