17 year old Nesconset teen who killed West Sayville ex was heart broken puppy love ending

Austin Lynch, Nesconset, Long Island teen shot and killed Emily Finn, West Sayville, NY ex girlfriend in botched murder-suicide cause he couldn’t accept ‘puppy love’ ending. 

A report has told of a 17 year old Long Island boy allegedly shooting his ex girlfriend dead in a botched murder-suicide after the college freshman ending their relationship.

The heart broken teen identified as Austin Lynch of Nesconset according to social media, is to now be charged as an adult, in the shooting death of 18-year-old Emily Finn of West Sayville

According to a family friend interviewed by the nypost, the 17-year-old was besotten with grief that Finn had recently ended their ‘teenage romance.’

Family friend said break up was too much grief for teen boy hurting over ‘puppy love’ 

‘It was young puppy love that stopped making sense. It wasn’t going to work. Most of these young relationships don’t,’ the anonymous friend who declined to give their name said of the male suspect told the nypost.

Added the friend, ‘I don’t know where this went wrong and what led to such an extreme reaction.’

‘People are in the comments like, ‘she must’ve done something to him,’ No, she didn’t.’

Finn who was a college freshman at SUNY had dropped by on Wednesday to return some of the 17 year old’s belongings only for the boy to shoot and kill the 18 year old. In turn the Nesconset teen then turned the murder weapon on himself, intent on ending his own life, only to shoot his own face and survive.

He allegedly gunned down Finn inside his Nesconset family home around 11:10 a.m. on Wednesday, Suffolk County Police stated according to Greater Long Island

Heart break of young love ending was too much for teen shooter

Finn is now in hospital recovering from his injuries. The extent of which were not immediately known. 

According to the friend, who has known the suspect for most of his life, the heart break of young love ending was too much to bear.

Explained the friend, ‘The frontal lobe is still undeveloped and not equipped to handle and process these emotions. I went through breakups when I was younger and they’re awful but I never contemplated doing anything like this.’

Added the family friend, ‘That’s ultimately what this was. The inability of a young kid to process this. It feels like the world is coming to an end.’

‘Emily is dead. Her family is destroyed. These people lost their lives in an instant.’

SUNY college freshman victim had her whole life ahead of her… 

Finn graduated from Sayville High School in June and was a freshman at State University of New York (SUNY) in Oneonta, where she was studying Childhood/Elementary Education with a minor in Dance after graduating Cherry Avenue School in 2024, according to her social media.

Emily had her whole life ahead of her…. but a teen who struggled with his emotions, thought otherwise.

The suspect turns 18 in the coming days, Newsday reported. Austin Lynch of Nesconset is to be charged as an adult with second-degree murder and arraigned when practical, officials said.

A GoFundme has since been set up to support Emily Finn’s family in the aftermath.
