A 17 year old Nesconset, NY teen who fatally shot his ex girlfriend after recently breaking up with the 17 year old is to be charged as an adult according to authorities.
The 17-year-old suspect, who lived with his parents in Nesconset, was not publicly identified due to his age, Suffolk County police said in an alert.

Emily Finn, an 18-year-old West Sayville resident, was killed in the shooting at the suspect’s home on Shenandoah Blvd after having gone to her ex boyfriend’s family house to return some belongings to the teen.
‘She wanted to speak to him face to face,’ Suffolk County Police Det. Kevin Beyrer said at a press conference outside the home according to Greater Long Island. ‘They had broken up a couple weeks ago. From what we’re hearing, he took the breakup very hard.’
The 17-year-old male killed Finn with a shotgun blast, then turned the gun on himself, shooting himself in the face, only to survive, Greater Long Island reported.
The boy’s parents were home at the time, but working in the backyard, Beyrer said. His father called 911 to report the shooting.
The boy was transported to Stony Brook University Hospital. His present condition was not immediately known.
Cops did not say who owned the gun the suspect used, but said it was legally owned. Investigators said there was no ‘domestic history‘ between the teenage couple.

Emily Finn graduated from Sayville High School in June and was a freshman at State University of New York (SUNY) in Oneonta, where she was studying Childhood/Elementary Education with a minor in Dance after graduating Cherry Avenue School in 2024, according to her social media.
At the time of the shooting, the college freshman had gone to her former’s boyfriend to return some of his personal items.
The suspect turns 18 in the coming days, Newsday reported. He’ll be charged as an adult with second-degree murder and arraigned when practical, officials said.
A GoFundme has since been set up to support Emily Finn’s family in the aftermath.
