The parents of a 1 year old Iowa boy have been arrested after the toddler was found with his head submerged in a bucket of bleach for an unknown period of time at the family’s ‘rancid’ residence.

Scott Marcov, 30, and Madelyn Marcov, 28, were arrested after police arrived at the couple’s ‘mouse infested’ home in Dubuque following a 911 call. Along with the 1 year old, the couple shared what an arrest affidavit noted was the couple’s ‘squalid’ home with their two other kids, a 6 year old and 4 year old.

Baby boy submerged in bucket of bleach leads to loss of consciousness and respiratory failure

The child ‘had fallen into a bucket of bleach water, which resulted in his head being submerged in water for an undisclosed amount of time,’ cops said in the arrest affidavit.

Scott and Madelyn Marcov became aware of this incident when another of their children carried the infant into the living room, the affidavit stated.

The incident led to the boy losing consciousness and his parents calling 911, KCRG reported.

The unconscious boy was transpired to a nearby hospital after experiencing ‘acute respiratory failure and loss of consciousness.’ The boy was again moved to another facility, the University of Iowa Hospital for more advanced and specialized care.

During police investigations, detectives learned that Scott Marcov was in the bathroom, while Madelyn was in the living room of their home, during which time the baby fell into the bucket of bleach.

During a field survey of the house where the family lived, officers found the home to be ‘completely filthy.’ Officers reported mice moving around, a dead mouse on the floor in the kitchen, along with a used diaper inside a cooking pot, on the kitchen countertop.

The incident took place in October of last year and has been under investigation for the past four months prior to police arresting the couple just on 5 am, Tuesday morning.

Following the couple’s arrest during the early morning hours of Tuesday, Scott and Madelyn Marcov were charged with child endangerment and the neglect of a dependent person while causing serious injury, according to the Dubuque Police Department.

Scott and Madelyn Marcov were released after posting a $20,000 bond.

The complaint did not give an updated condition for the boy.
