A high school Spanish teacher in California is accused of having a sexual relationship with a teenage student, according to police.

Dulce Flores, 33, a teacher at Riverbank High School outside of Modesto, is charged with having sex with a 17-year-old while he was a student in 2023, according to the Stanislaus County Sheriff’s Office.

The Spanish language teacher had been teaching at the school since 2016, cops said.

Abuse of position, trust and power

The Riverbank Police Services in Facebook release stated Dulce Flores being arrested Tuesday at her home in Riverbank. Flores faced charges of unlawful sexual intercourse with a minor and was booked into the Stanislaus County Jail

She was being held on a $20,000 bail, cops said.

Authorities launched an investigation into the educator after a school official received a tip from a staff member about the inappropriate relationship.

Flores was placed on a leave of absence while the case is investigated, according to a statement from the Riverbank Unified School District, The Modesto Bee reported.

The district said it is cooperating with authorities and has been in contact with families of students enrolled in Flores’ classes to minimize ‘any disruption to their instruction for the remainder of the academic year.’

‘It is truly unfortunate for our district to face a situation like this,’ Superintendent Constantino Aguilar said. ‘While we continue to work with law enforcement, the district will also look to determine what options it may have available to independently address this matter.’

Not immediately clear is what led to the female educator abusing her position of trust, authority and power and subjugating her teen male victim.
