The man who drove a white SUV pick up truck into a crowd during New Year’s revelry in New Orleans‘ French Quarter, killing 10, injuring at least 35 has been identified as 42-year-old Shamsud Din Jabbar, a US citizen.
The Ford electric vehicle was owned by another 42-year-old man from Houston, Texas. The truck had reportedly been rented out on Turo, and police are in contact with the owner who listed it for rent.
The gunman was killed by police after he plowed a Ford truck into pedestrians celebrating the New Year, exiting the vehicle, and indiscriminately firing.

The vehicle was reportedly carrying a black flag, thought to now be ISIS denominated along with a chest with explosives inside it.

Authorities investigating the ‘mass casualty incident’ say the driver showed ‘very intentional behavior’ after driving into crowds in the city’s French Quarter before getting out and firing a weapon.
The suspect who opened fire upon alighting from his vehicle was shot dead by responding officers. Images of the man’s’ body was shared on social media – see below.
Louisiana Lt Governor Billy Nungesser said investigators were probing whether the attack was connected to ISIS and if a flag on the back of the truck was connected to the terrorist group.
The FBI said they do not believe the terrorist acted alone, and surveillance footage captured three men and a woman placing one of multiple improvised explosive devices in the area, according to the Associated Press.
Noted a release from the FBI: An ISIS flag was located in the vehicle, and the FBI is working to determine the subject’s potential associations and affiliations with terrorist organizations.
Weapons and a potential IED were located in the subject’s vehicle. Other potential IEDs were also located in the French Quarter. The FBI’s special agent bomb technicians are working with our law enforcement partners to determine if any of these devices are viable, and they will work to render those devices safe.
The FBI is the lead investigative agency, and we are working with our partners to investigate this as an act of terrorism. We are aggressively running down all leads to identify any possible associates of the subject.
