A toddler was found wandering alone in the freezing cold outside a Jersey Shore home Monday after the child’s babysitter drank herself to a stupor and blacked out, police said.

A horrified neighbor rescued the wandering infant in Brigantine just after 12:30 p.m. — before finding the child’s babysitter, Jena Davidson unconscious inside the home, according to cops.

The neighbor, Dave Braccia, called police, who responded to the call along with Brigantine Fire and EMS.

Afflicted babysitter came through nanny site, ‘Nanny Lane’

Davidson, a 35-year-old of Ventnor City, New Jersey, was given life support and taken to a nearby hospital for treatment, police said.

‘It was determined that the person who was hired to be responsible for the care of the child while the parents were working had consumed a significant amount of the homeowner’s alcohol to the point that she became unconscious and unresponsive,’ the Brigantine Police Department said in a statement.

Court documents stated that there was a coffee mug containing alcohol found on the counter and an empty shot bottle inside Davidson’s bag.

Davidson was subsequently charged with second-degree endangering the welfare of a child.

The child’s parent was told what had happened and left work to rush home, officials said.

‘Shocked. You’re in charge of a baby, and you shouldn’t be drunk on the ground,’ neighbor Dave Braccia told NBC10

Davidson was hired by the parent through Nanny Lane, a popular website used to find local babysitters.

In her profile, which was still active as of January 15, Davidson described herself as a graduate with a degree in Elementary Education from Penn State.

‘I am a Kindergarten teacher and I am currently going back to school to be a nurse,’ the nanny wrote.

‘I have worked in childcare setting since I was 15 years old and I love kids.’

The profile said her hourly rate is $18 and that she was available for both full-time and live-in babysitting responsibilities.

‘We’re very happy to hear that the toddler is safe and that the neighbor acted quickly,’ Nanny Lane said in a statement according to the nypost. ‘We’ve blocked Jena from using Nanny Lane. She signed up over a year ago, tried our site for three days, then left and never used it again.

‘Every paid family is provided background checks as part of their membership fee, and we highly recommend that every family use them.’

Not immediately clear is what led to the 35 year old babysitter drinking herself to oblivion.
