Zahriya Moreno, Tucson, Arizona woman taken off life support following domestic violence incident involving boyfriend, Angelito Adrian Olivas, who continued driving vehicle after his girlfriend jumped on his trunk during argument.
A 22-year-old Arizona woman has passed away after she was taken off life support by her family after suffering major injuries after she was thrown off from her boyfriend’s car.
Zahriya Moreno and Angelito Adrian Olivas, 25, had gotten into an argument early Monday morning, with Moreno at some point, jumping on the trunk of his vehicle as he tried to leave the area, according to a criminal complaint obtained by KOLD.
Olivas, who had been dating Moreno for one and a half years, allegedly knew Moreno was on the trunk but continued driving anyway.
Honor Walk
At some point, Moreno fell off and Olivas found her unresponsive.
Olivas then drove her to the Drexel Heights Fire Department in Tucson where she was brought to a local hospital.
Her father, Robert, said he woke up on Wednesday knowing Zahriya was going to be taken off life support.
But he wasn’t expecting more than 100 people to show up at Banner-University Medical Center for her Honor Walk, as she had her organs donated.
‘The outpouring of support is something I wouldn’t have fathomed in a million years,’ he said.
‘I thought it was just going to be family and friends.’
The parent added that it is ‘wonderful to know that parts of my baby will live on, but there’s no words, no anything that will ever be able to make this better.’
He noted that they had previously lost Zahriya’s twin brother, Izac, who died in a motorcycle crash in 2021 – which Robert said took a toll on her.
Boyfriend makes bond on mere $2500
Zahriya’s grandparents also said they are now finding solace knowing that she is reunited with her twin brother.
They described Zahriya as a ‘very strong girl’ who ‘just graduated recently from esthetician school’ to KVOA.
She was active in JROTC and wanted to do that full time.
Olivas was charged with felony domestic violence, aggravated assault and felony endangerment.
The boyfriend was released after posting a $2,500 bond just hours after the domestic violence incident – infuriating Robert.
‘It almost seemed like a joke,’ Zahriya’s father told media.
‘I’m disappointed in the judge, the legal system.’
Authorities have since disclosed new charges against the boyfriend are pending.
