Romy Lauer crashes into Hamptons fence & flees scene as she now faces a legal summons and heightened media scrutiny following the infamous legacy of her former Today show host father, Matt Lauer.
The apple doesn’t fall too far from the tree… Also making her tabloid debut is the daughter of infamous TV land, NBC’s former Today Show host du jour, Matt Lauer, who appears to have found herself in a skirmish with her Hampton community.
It all happened around the 4th of July when Romy Lauer, 20, was driving her Jeep Wrangler in the Hamptons with friends after a night of revelries when she crashed into a fence and sign, only to flee the crash scene. Except she left her disjointed number plate behind, creating an easy trace, according to police.
Cops said the troupe had spend part of the holiday partying at Kissaki Sushi in Water Mill, as seen in her TikTok video, but by about 4am on July 5 she was on the road in Southampton.

A tawdry life of privilege?
A resident on North Sea Mecox Road was woken up by the sounds of a loud calamitous bang and called 911 worried someone was seriously hurt in the crash.
By the time local police arrived they found a fence and a sign knocked over but no sign of a vehicle – except for the number plate, a source told scandal sheet, page6.
Romy was issued a summons for leaving the scene of an accident, and is now being represented by top lawyer Edward Burke, who previously defended her father.
Romy studies finance at the University of Miami, where she met her boyfriend of one year, Spanish tennis player Antonio Pratt.
However, she appears to spend much of her time going to fancy parties and on lavish holidays with her similarly privileged pals (‘got the cash why not daddy?!’).
Lauer has mostly been hiding out on his farm in New Zealand since he was fired from the Today show over numerous sexual abuse allegations.

He popped up on Romy’s TikTok in 2019 with some cringeworthy dance moves and took her out in the Hamptons for her 18th birthday on October 2, 2021.
Lauer was spotted with his daughter, his girlfriend Shamin Abas, and one of Romy’s friends eating at Italian restaurant Tutto ll Giorno and had ice-cream at Yummylicious
Missing from the idylic picture was Romy’s mother, Lauer’s ex-wife, Dutch model Annette Roque, who left ‘daddy’ as soon as allegations of sexual assault came out.
Roque in 2006 filed for divorce while pregnant with their third child, Thrijs, claiming ‘mental abuse, extreme mental and emotional distress, humiliation, torment, and anxiety’.
They reconciled soon after, and only divorced for good on September 7, 2019.
Lauer was co-host of Today from 1997 to 2017 and contracted to the end of 2018 on a $20 million-a-year salary when he was fired for cause over a laundry list of sexual harassment and alleged sexual assault of subordinates too afraid to speak out for fear of being canned.
An internal investigation had found great cause and concern over the allegations with Lauer even releasing a statement saying, ‘I fully acknowledge that I acted inappropriately as a husband, father and principal at NBC,’
New found redemption?
‘However I want to make it perfectly clear that any allegations or reports of coercive, aggressive or abusive actions on my part, at any time, are absolutely false.’
Adding, ‘Some of what is being said about me is untrue or mischaracterized, but there is enough truth in these stories to make me feel embarrassed and ashamed.’
Romy to date has declined to address her own misadventures on her social media platform. But one can only wait and see what our new found collective hero gets up to this Labor Day weekend. Then again, there is always New Zealand to pack oneself off to and calm down …
