A 38 year old Pennsylvania man is in custody for allegedly stabbing to death his 73 year old mother along a New Kensington street Sunday night.

Brian Rebold, 38, of Arnold, PA is accused of fatally stabbing his mother, Diana Rebold, 73, on Liberty Avenue Sunday night circa 5.30pm.

Upon his arrest the son was charged with criminal homicide and murder in the first degree according to the Westmoreland County District Attorney.

‘Are they filming again?’

The son’s arrest follows the 38 year old calling 9-1-1 to report the stabbing when the incident occurred.

Responding officers with the Arnold Police Department found Brian Debold next to the deceased woman along with admitting to killing her.

The unresponsive woman was stabbed multiple times, including cuts to the throat and head, KDKA reported. The victim was pronounced dead pronounced dead about 7:30 p.m. by the Westmoreland County coroner, just feet from the white picket fence that surrounded her property.

The 73 year old was known by neighbors to rent out her property on Liberty Avenue to filmmakers.

On one occasion, more than 100 people — including actors playing police — crowded around the Cape Cod home, according to neighbor Gene Musco, who was inside his home Sunday when sirens sounded.

‘It made me think: ‘Are they filming again?’’ Musco told TribLive.

‘I’m shaking like a leaf because this is such a quiet neighborhood,’ another neighbor said following the stabbing which has since shocked the ‘tight knit’ community.

A knife believed to have been thrown by the suspect into a neighbor’s yard was recovered by police.

‘To have something this brutal in this neighborhood, because everyone watches everyone here, I’m just in shock,’ another neighbor said. ‘This is just all so shocking. That’s all. Good Lord, what’s this world coming to?’

Brian Rebold is reported to have a history of erratic and violent behavior, including a 2020 conviction for assaulting three people at the Valley Points YMCA in New Kensington. That same year, he pleaded guilty to another assault that took place while he was being held in the Westmoreland County Prison.

Rebold’s Facebook page contains a series of dense ramblings about politics, music or some intersection of the two. One post, which doesn’t go into much detail, opens with what appears to be a warning: ‘Seems like everyone knows to stay away from me in no uncertain terms.’

Chief Josh Stanga with the Arnold Police Dept said investigators have yet to necessarily understand what led to the son murdering his own mother. The police chief said neighbors heard the mother and son arguing in the street before the incident turned violent, WTAE reported.

It remained unclear whether Diana Rebold ever lived at the Liberty Avenue home, with neighbors saying the woman’s son recently moved in after years of the house serving as a movie set and short-term rental for visitors through Airbnb or a similar platform.

Sunday’s slaying comes after the son’s mother often dropping by to check in on her son.

‘I didn’t notice any problems between them and never heard any arguing,’ one neighbor told WPXI. ‘I had spoken to him before and I thought there was something a little off about him. I don’t know what it is and I just assumed he needed care.’
