Jesus Monroy, Longanville, Georgia man charged in the murder of his former 7 months pregnant teen girlfriend, Mia Campos, 16, after her body was found in woods. No known motive.
The ex-boyfriend of a pregnant Georgia 16 year old has been arrested just over a week after allegedly killing the teen.
Upon his arrest, Jesus Monroy, 20, of Loganville, was charged with malice murder, felony murder, feticide and aggravated assault in the slaying of 16 year old Mia Campos.
At the time of her death, Campos was seven months pregnant.
‘I found my daughter laid face down,’
At approximately 1 a.m. July 15, officers responded to the 3600 block of Stephens Road in Loganville after the victim’s family called 911 to report finding Mia’s body just off the roadway.
The family informed officers that Campos had left the house the previous night with an unknown person. When she did not return home, her family used a cell phone application to locate her according to a previous Gwinnett County Police notification.
Initial evidence at the scene left investigators unable to determine how Campos died. Detectives, crime scene investigators, and the medical examiner’s office processed the scene and interviewed witnesses. Following an autopsy on July 16, the medical examiner determined that Campos’ death was a homicide.
Her father, Edward Campos, said she was found less than a mile away from their home according to Atlanta News First.
‘I found my daughter laid face down,’ the parent told the outlet. ‘It was hard. I knew it was something wrong – her lips, her bleeding nose. They murdered my baby.’
No known motive
Leading up to her death, the teen had been eagerly preparing for her baby shower according to her family.
On July 17, investigators arrested Campos’ ex-boyfriend, Jesus Monroy, for giving false statements to a police officer.
On July 23, detectives charged Monroy with malice murder, felony murder, feticide, and aggravated assault, the Gwinnett County Police Department announced Tuesday.
Monroy is currently being held without bond. He is expected to make a court appearance on July 25.
The police department has not released any other information about Monroy and his possible motivation. Not immediately clear is what led to the former couple breaking up along with the identity of the unborn child’s biological father.
