A Minnesota man has been charged with the hit-and-run death of his 49 year old wife, whose body was found along a roadway last month.
Tony James McClelland, 47, was booked on charges of probable cause of felony second degree murder and criminal vehicular homicide, the Crow Wing County Sheriff’s Office stated.
Angela McClelland’s body was found near the intersection of Legend Road and Killian Road west of Highway 371 after the Sheriff’s Office received a report of a body lying in the roadway in Fort Ripley Township on June 25.
Investigators from the Crow Wing County Sheriff’s Office, the Minnesota Bureau of Criminal Apprehension and the Minnesota State Patrol believed McClelland was a victim of a hit-and-run. They began developing leads and spent the past two weeks following up on interviews and gathering pieces of evidence leading to Tony McClelland’s arrest, the Sheriff’s Office reported.
Police did not disclose a motive in the killing but said they would provide more information ‘in the next days.’ The McClellands lived together in their home in Fort Ripley.
The sheriff’s office worked with the state patrol and the state Bureau of Criminal Apprehension to build a case before making the arrest.
Of note, McClelland was convicted of a DUI in 2006 and served 90 days in jail, in addition to being required to complete alcohol and drug classes, according to court records.
According to an online obituary, the couple married Oct. 20, 2011, at the Little White Chapel in Las Vegas. The pair “were inseparable” and loved to travel. She loved dachshunds and was “devoted to her children,” the obituary said.
