Chicago daycare worker gives birth to twin girls, found dead in plastic bag at childcare center where mom works. Facility identified as Bernice Lavin Early Childhood Education Center in Streeterville located on the campus of Northwestern Memorial Hospital.

Two newborn girls were discovered in a plastic bag at a Chicago day care center Thursday after workers found the mother covered in blood in a bathroom there.

The macabre discovery was made at the Bernice Lavin Early Childhood Education Center, located on the campus of Northwestern Memorial Hospital in the 400 block of East Ontario Street, just before 7 p.m. Thursday.

The newborns were taken to Lurie Children’s Hospital but attempts to revive them were unsuccessful, according to police.

Cleaning crew make grizzly discovery

The woman who works at the Streeterville day care also takes a class there, according to a police report. When she missed the class Thursday, workers began searching for her and found her shortly before 6 p.m. in a first-floor bathroom and called 911.

The mother, 29, was taken to Northwestern Memorial Hospital where she underwent surgery, police said according to the Chicago Sun-Times.

A Northwestern Memorial official confirmed to station WLS that the incident — described as an emergency medical situation — involved a day care employee.

Staff cleaning the bathroom discovered a black garbage bag in a cabinet. Inside were the newborns, unresponsive, police said.

A Fire Department ambulance took the babies to Lurie, where hospital staff named the girls Sepia and Radical Red, according to a police report.

The cause of death was not known.

Are charges pending?

The daycare is located on the Northwestern Memorial Hospital campus and no day care children were involved or impacted, hospital spokesman Christopher King said in a statement.

‘We are working with CPD regarding this incident and unable to comment further at this time,’ King said in the statement.

In an email sent to patents, the company managing the daycare stated that an emergency resulted in the unanticipated delivery of twin babies.

Detectives were recovering video from the day care center, police said.

As of Friday morning, no arrests had been made along with no charges filed. Authorities continued to investigate.
