Canadian Ski Resorts to choose from for snowsports holiday enthusiasts. Laid back, chilly winter temperatures, how these three resorts set the bar and remain a favorite.

When many of us think of snowsports resorts, names like Chamonix in the French Alps and Denver in the Rockies spring to mind.

And while both French and US hospitality and culture have much to recommend them, there’s something to be said for seeking fresh powder and pistes in new pastures.

With its laid-back, liberal culture, chilly winter temperatures and beautiful scenery, Canada could be the dynamic destination you’ve been yearning for.

But if you’ve never been before, how do you start planning your snowsports holiday and choosing the right location with confidence?

Enter our great guide to three ice-cool Canadian ski resorts – it’s been penned to solve your precise problem!

  1. Sunshine Village, Banff

Even the pickiest powderhounds can’t fail to be impressed by the awesome snow in Banff, Alberta – it’s perfect for snowboarders and skiers alike.

But Banff’s Sunshine Village resort also offers a more rounded experience for those who don’t want to spend every waking hour whizzing down the slopes.

For instance, carnivores can try bison and elk at the Maple Leaf Grille, while party animals will enjoy the hootenanny atmosphere of the Wild Bill Saloon.

  1. Lake Louise

Lovely Lake Louise is nestled in the heart of Banff National Park, a unique UNESCO world heritage site.

And apart from world-class runs to suit beginner, intermediate and advanced skiers, there’s awesome accommodation and superb apres-ski aplenty.

The five star Fairmount Chateau Lake Louise sits on the lake’s shores and boasts four restaurants, two bars and full spa facilities. Meanwhile, for something a little livelier, try the Lake Louise Inn’s Explorer Lounge for karaoke and regular DJ dance nights.

  1. Whistler

High-altitude resort Whistler is world-famous and might be the crown jewel of Canada’s snowsports resorts – with pristine powder on Whistler and Blackcomb Mountains, high-class accommodation and amazing apres-ski ambience, this resort simply has it all.

The ski-in/ski-out Pan Pacific Whistler Mountainside hotel has sublime views, luxury studio apartments and one- and two-bed suites with kitchen, balcony and cosy fireside – highly recommended.

For apres-ski vibes, your first stop is the Garibaldi Lift Company (GLC) above the Whistler Gondola Building for frothy jugs of ice-cold beer, margarita cocktails and table dancing, but there are plenty of excellent family-friendly cafes and restaurants too.
