Corinne Baum, Cincinnati, Ohio pre-K teacher at BrightPath Bridgetown Child Care Center fired after posting video seemingly lamenting Donald Trump surviving assassination attempt at White House Correspondent’s Dinner in Washington D.C.

An Ohio preschool teacher has been fired after sharing a video on social media that appeared to express disappointment of President Donald Trump surviving a shooting at the White House Correspondents’ Association Dinner, according to the child care provider and media reports.

Corinne Baum was instructing young students at BrightPath Bridgetown Child Care Center at the time of Sunday’s attempted assassination. The school terminated her after discovering a 20‑second clip she had shared in which she appeared disappointed that Trump was not injured or killed.

Corinne Baum frequent social media poster and political agitator

In the video, Baum referenced creators speculating that ‘Friday or yesterday could have been the day’ and added that she woke up to ‘that news, but not THAT news,’ comments widely interpreted as lamenting that Trump survived the attack.

In her post, Baum further went on to let out a sigh before saying, ‘We’re going to have to pay really close attention to what they’re actually trying to distract us from.’

The remarks came after 31‑year‑old Cole Tomas Allen allegedly opened fire at the Washington Hilton on Saturday night where senior Trump administration officials and journalists had gathered in what federal officials are investigating as an attempted assassination of Trump during the annual dinner. Trump, the first lady and senior officials were evacuated from the event; a Secret Service agent was wounded, and there were no fatalities, officials said.

Screenshots and reposts of Baum’s video, amplified by conservative accounts including Libs of TikTok, prompted swift backlash and calls for the educator’s dismissal, with critics accusing her of condoning political violence.

Posts shared by the educator on social media appeared to show her voicing opposition against ICE operating in Ohio along with contempt for MAGA supporters.

Early childhood educator terminated over ‘values’

BrightPath, which rebranded from The Children’s House in 2023, confirmed Baum’s employment at its Bridgetown location had been terminated and said it does not condone violence of any kind.

‘Our organization does not tolerate and explicitly condemns any calls for violence. The comments made online by this individual are deeply inconsistent with our values. The individual in question has been terminated,’ BrightPath’s corporate office said in a statement according to KPTV.

BrightPath has 12 preschool and day care centers in the Tri-State region. According to its website, the organization is a trusted early learning and child care provider as well as a world-class and innovative provider of early childhood education.

Freedom of speech or political violence?

In remarks to Fox19, a close friend of Baum’s said she was devastated over the news.

‘She is going through a difficult time right now and is very distraught,’ the friend said.

The incident is the latest in disciplinary actions against individuals over social media posts appearing to cheer or downplay assassination attempts against public figures, including September’s assassination of political commentator, Charlie Kirk which led to an avalanche of conservative support for sanctions against alleged ‘inappropriate’ and or ‘offensive’ posts made by political rivals
