Abbie Flynn Gloucester Massachusetts woman remains missing 10 days after going for a walk after preparing for Super Bowl party for family & friends.
A mom-of-three who was about to host a Super Bowl party in Massachusetts went for a walk before the NFL game, only to never return.
Abbie Flynn, 59, of Houston, Texas, was preparing for the party at her family’s vacation home in Gloucester, Feb. 2 when she decided to take a break and walk outside, only to not be seen again the Gloucester Police Dept said in a released statement.
The retired nurse was last seen around 4:30 p.m. that day. Her cell phone was still on the kitchen counter and food remained in the oven when party guests arrived, friends and family said.
When guests arrived at Abbie’s house around 6 p.m. for the big game, the oven was still warm, but Abbie was gone.
‘There was an indication that she had been at home, that she prepared for the party, but she was not there,’ Gloucester Police Chief Edward Conley told Dateline NBC this week of the missing woman.
Authorities searched various paths and woods around the area where Flynn went missing, as well as the coastline, police said in a statement. A ground search has since been halted, but a dive team will search underwater once the weather allows.
Authorities say they don’t believe foul play was a factor in Flynn’s disappearance.
‘We’re working primarily under the theory that she did what she said she was going to do,’ Conley told KPRC. ‘Which was go for a walk, and perhaps [she] either got lost or had a medical incident.’
Living a wonderful happy life:
Flynn grew up in Gloucester and divides her time between the city and Houston, where her husband Rich works as a radiologist.
‘They have a wonderful life and are just really happy,’ the woman’s brother Brian Flynn told Dateline. ‘It doesn’t make sense that she would just walk away.’
Brian, who lives in Bermuda and was visiting his son in California on Super Bowl Sunday, immediately flew to Massachusetts when Rich called him about what had happened.
‘We’re all in shock. This is just heartbreaking for all of us,’ Flynn reiterated.
Flynn has three adult children, one who lives in New York and two who are away at college, according to the missing woman’s brother.
‘She spoke to them that afternoon. The day she went missing,’ he said. ‘She is the most caring and selfless mother, friend and sister. She’d do anything for any of us.’
Flynn is described as being around 5-foot-5, about 200 pounds, with brown hair. She may have been wearing a navy blue L.L. Bean puffer jacket, L.L. Bean boots, blue jeans and a flannel shirt at the time of her disappearance.
