Thomas ‘Landon’ Grant and Jacob Frye: Two Alabama college students arrested after nabbing duck from pond- beating it with baseball bat and leaving it for dead.

Two former Alabama college athletes have been arrested after allegedly beating a duck with a baseball bat and leaving it for dead after attending a party.

Thomas ‘Landon’ Grant and Jacob Frye, both 19, are accused of taking the white Muscovy duck from a pond at Central Alabama Community College in Alexander City following the gathering of baseball players on campus.

The college baseball players beat the bird with a bat, then took it to a nearby apartment where they decided to ‘put it out of its misery’, according to a police report.

But it gets grimmer.

Cops say the teens continued pounding the animal before chucking it out into a wooded area during the May 5 incident.

They were found out after a coach heard commotion and investigated.

The wounded duck was discovered still alive and was later taken to a veterinarian where it had to be euthanized.

The coach then contacted school officials who in turn notified police Fox News reported.

Not immediately understood is what motivated the heinous abuse and beating of the bird.

Also not clear is whether the players continued to remain on the team or if they have faced disciplinary action by the university.

Grant was arrested May 31 and booked into the Tallapoosa County Jail on a Class C felony charge of aggravated animal cruelty. He posted $5,000 bond, was released the same day and is due in court late July.

His arrest led to Frye – who now lives in Cartersville, Georgia – finally handing himself in to Alexander City Police.

Frye was booked into Tallapoosa County Jail on the same charge Friday, according to Detective Robert Oliver.

Police are still investigating the incident and could detain more suspects, AL.com reports.
