
Amanda Nappi Milford mother arrested after driving her car with her three kids into a reservoir.
A 30 year old Massachusetts woman has been arrested after driving her vehicle into a reservoir in Rhode Island with her three young children inside.
In a news release posted on Facebook- the Portsmouth Police Department told of responding to an incident at the Lawton Valley reservoir circa 3 p.m. involving a submerged Toyota Highlander SUV vehicle in the water.
When authorities arrived they discovered the driver, Amanda Nappi of Milford having made her way up the embankment of the reservoir and before intentionally driving into the water.
Nappi’s three young children were also in the vehicle as she drove into the waterway, according to police.
‘At that time, all the occupants were taken to a local hospital as a precaution,‘ police said. All four were not seriously injured in the incident.
Nappi’s children were later turned over to the Massachusetts Department of Children and Families.
Upon her release from the hospital, the 30-year-old was arraigned on three counts of cruelty to or neglect of a child. Nappi, who failed to post bond, is behind held at the Women’s Adult Correctional Institution in Cranston, R.I.
The woman is expected back in court at a later time WPRI reported.
Police have yet to say what motivated the mother and if she had sought to injure or drown herself and her children.
The woman’s day to day activities were not immediately understood. Also not understood is what alternatives and support system were offered to the woman.
