Florida sheriff Wayne Ivey of Brevard County releases a preparation video urging citizens to carry arms. Ignoring the real terror at our doorsteps.
Wayne Ivey a Brevard County, Florida sheriff has caused disconcert after posting a video on Facebook imploring citizens to arm themselves in case of an attack.
The law man’s message, comes as Ivey said citizens need to prepare themselves in the wake of deadly attacks around the world.
Along with a six minute video, the lawmaker posted sensational images from the recent terror attacks in London as well as domestic shootings including the Pulse massacre.
‘Like each of you, I am sick and deeply concerned about the senseless attacks that are taking place around the world,’ he began.
‘Folks, now more than ever is the time for our citizens to be prepared to serve as the first line of defense, not only for them, but for their families.
‘Doing nothing or thinking it’s not going to happen to you is not going to save your life.
‘For those who don’t think it’s going to happen here, trust me, it’s happening all around us. ‘
The self-proclaimed ‘politically-incorrect’ sheriff (do you suppose…?) then urged viewers to carry their concealed weapons while declaring Americans were at war.
Reiterated Ivey, ‘What’s next is to fully understand that this is war, and you better be prepared to wage war to protect you, your family, and those around you if attacked.’
The lawmaker went on to exhort that attackers can only be stopped by other armed citizens.
‘No matter who you are or what your position is on guns, there’s no denying the fact that the only thing that stops a bad guy with a gun or a knife is an armed and well-prepared citizen or law enforcement officer.
‘As you know I am the most politically incorrect sheriffs in the country and I’m good with that.
‘What I’m not good with is sitting back while waiting on the emergency to happen,’ Ivey said.
Along with arming oneself, Ivey implored citizens to take up self-defense classes and to watch his police department’s videos on ‘survival’.
Which is to wonder what could go possibly go wrong with an entire society on edge walking around with silver bullets ever ready at their disposal?
Needless to say, Ivey’s ‘outreach’ video attracted a volley of positive and negative comments, with many criticized the sheriff for exaggerating the level of threat and spreading fear.
Wrote one commenter: ‘How is this helpful? The point of terrorism is to scare people and get a panicked response from them, to disrupt their everyday lives with anxiety.
‘You are doing far more harm than good by trying to get everyone armed and on edge. ‘
While another posited, ‘Exactly how many foreign terror attacks has Brevard County faced in the last 20 years? How many people have died from domestic gun violence? Can we please get our priorities straightened out and fix the violence problems we HAVE instead of getting everyone flustered over problems we don’t? Please? Please work on solving our legitimate problems and stop wasting time on things that rarely if ever happen here.’
While another wrote, ‘How is this helpful? The point of terrorism is to scare people and get a panicked response from them, to disrupt their everyday lives with anxiety. You are doing far more harm than good by trying to get everyone armed and on edge.’
And another, ‘You’re way more likely to be victimized by a police officer than a terrorist.’
That said, Ivey’s brand of ‘shoot first, ask questions later’ militant views attracted a myriad of supporters as well.
Wrote one commentator, ‘We are sick of politically correctness so let’s deal with reality here. It’s not just terrorists we got to worry about. It’s the drugged out addicts. Robbing And breaking into our homes we need to be protected from them also. Thanks sheriff Ivey’.
