Spring for a Cure A Culinary and Beverage Tasting Event

The young leadership committee of the Juvenile Diabetes Research Foundation held its annual Spring for a Cure benefit at the Metropolitan Pavilion. The event was a culinary and beverage tasting featuring more than forty  cuisine and beverage sponsors. The party was attended by more than seven hundred guests who ate, drank and danced the night away.

I chatted with Kate Weisberg, an event committee chairperson originally from Detroit. She told me that it was more difficult this year to recruit restaurants due to the lingering economic down turn. In spite of this, there was no apparent shortage of delicious food and a wide assortment of libations.

I cleared my palate with refreshing blood orange sorbet from Ciao Bella Gelato and tucked into some magnificent gefilte fish from newcomer Octavia’s Porch. Next I sampled divine stewed chicken from the Egyptian restaurant Le Souk. The diver’s scallops with cavair mousse  from Greek perennial Thalassa was not to be missed.
