The end of the male model?

“Trust me to end up working in the only industry in the world where women get paid more than men, and treated loads better,” he told the Sunday Times Style. “We’re trying to change that. In the hierarchy of a shoot, you have the photographer, the female model, the stylists, the assistants, then the male model. You are the lowest of the low.”

And courtesy of the UK Telegraph :

Very early on I went to a casting for Dior and they asked me to try on a suit. I couldn’t even get one leg into the trousers, let alone put the jacket on. All the models were standing around going, ‘Hey, who’s the big guy?’

There was quite an unpleasant atmosphere there, quite intimidating. I remember thinking, ‘Are these guys appealing?’ They certainly weren’t appealing to me.’

It may well be that for now modeling will carry on, but if one has ever heard the saying- ‘buyer beware’ the saying is very real here and with changing tastes, (it does appear the designers are using real men as opposed to effeminate skate boarders but that too is a function of fickle taste and branding) the male model will probably make it to the next season, but with a career with little of an end game- unless you are a top male model (and even then)- could I advise you from experience; enjoy the views, love the friends you make, spend the money wisely, cherish the memories but eventually take your game to another part of the park ’cause when it does snow you will be left stranded.
