SCV: Will you be doing the upcoming collections here in NYC?
KB: Yes, I’m slated to do some shows and I’ll be making some front row appearances as well.
SCV: A lot of people have this perception that modeling is this glamorous career. Would you agree?
KB: Well that’s the public perception, but there is a lot that goes on that you really don’t hear too much about. The fact that it really is a very unpredictable one and frankly a very demanding one is something I’m not sure people really appreciate. The hours are long, the work itself can take a toll, and trying to break in is never easy, there are a lot of hurdles and even then there are a lot of stereo types that a girl like me who doesn’t look like a waif has to combat in the industry.
SCV: We’ve been running a lot of features on our site about the changing climate of fashion. Jean Paul Gaultier now working with plus size model Crystal Renn, Lea T the Brazilian trans sexual being used by Givenchy and French Vogue (in the buff) and even Steven Meisel doing a shoot for Vogue Italia in the oil spills in Loiusianna. Do you feel perhaps there is a change in the tide of fashion and what do you think of it?
KB: Look I think it’s great, it’s about time we changed some of our outlooks and become more inclusive of some of the realities of the outside world. Personally I don’t think I have ever fitted the traditional image of what it is to be a model or a fashion icon but I think the shift in sentiments can only continue to aid all of us. I actually remember being really happy to have read somewhere where BMI codes are now being enforced. You know I’ve done shows where once the girls get off the catwalk they pass out because of sheer exhaustion. That’s not very healthy for a 19 year old girl.
SCV: Is there anything else that you have to put up with that most people don’t get to hear about?
KB: Yes the rumors. There always rumors flying around and all you can do is not pay attention.
