JF: (referring to his early days on SNL) “If you didn’t write a sketch with you in it, you wouldn’t be on the show” and described the excitement of live TV as ‘electric.’ “It’s that and sports for me…[turns to Williams] and the news.” (laughter)
JF: “Did you know Chevy Chase was only on the show for 1 season? But what a season, right? I was on for 5 and had trouble filling up my ‘best of’ DVD.” (laughter) Fallon believes the turnover of comedians is important (giving new talent their chance to shine) referring to his departure from SNL in 2009.
Williams: How did you get (Grammy award winning Hip Hop band) The Roots to be the House Band on your show?
“I sent them an e-mail and then didn’t hear back from them for 3 months. I can take a hint.” (laughter) But as fate would have it, the band had been performing abroad and when they returned to the states, agreed to meet. To impress them, Fallon arranged for a meeting in Lorne Michael’s office and the rest is history.
“Late Night” which is produced by Lorne Michaels, recently celebrated its first year anniversary. Pretty good for a guy who in elementary school was voted “most likely to replace Dave Letterman.” Really.
