The accessories also did their part to keep the outfits feeling current and innovative. Necklaces shaped like bird skulls around graceful, long necks falling onto the painstakingly embroidered frocks. The shoes were particularly outstanding. Boots with lacey cutouts from the leather, sandals with wings for the girl that wants to feel like a chic Mercury, and lots of men’s shoes for women. Brightly colored loafers and dress shoes that elevated the outfits to wearable art. “We’ve always done menswear” said Gabriela. “There’s something very strong about wearing men’s clothes or shoes. See, even Natalia is wearing it with her dress.” It’s true, she was. Beautiful contrasting men’s dress shoes that added a little something extra to her evening gown.

The utilitarian nature of the shoes combined with the ethereal air about the clothes created a timeless ease to the scene. The models lounged around the trading station seeming less like traders and more like wilted, world-weary travelers with the mark of the open road on their beautiful faces. The makeup was plain, except for a heavy eye, and the hair was messy braids and wild waves.
