A search for a missing 5-year-old girl has intensified after South Carolina authorities saying the child disappeared after ‘wandering off,’ from a rental property in Pawleys Island, Georgetown County.
Saylor Hayes was reported missing from a home on Old Waccamaw Drive in the Hagley area Sunday afternoon according to a Facebook release from The Georgetown County Sheriff’s Office.
Saylor is described as being 3 feet, 6 inches tall with blond hair and blue eyes. She was last seen wearing a light blue one-piece bathing suit and a pink-and-white lanyard around her ankle, according to the sheriff’s office.

Her mother said that the family is not from the area and that Sailor is nonverbal and does not respond to her name. Officials are urging anyone who encounters her to remain calm, use a gentle approach and immediately call 911.
Authorities said Sailor will react positively to a gentle tone, smiles, and slow movements.
K9 units are being sent to search the neighborhood, while officers and fire teams are conducting drone searches, utilizing boats and other resources in the search for the missing girl throughout the night.
Crews are checking nearby neighborhoods, wooded areas, docks and waterways, abcnews4 reported. Boaters are requested to use caution in the area.
The search was expanded to include underwater operations, with divers from Horry County assisting authorities around nearby docks.

Horry County divers examined 200 yards underwater near the rental property that the family was staying in. Divers from the Department of Natural Resources will continue the underwater search as needed on Monday, the Georgetown County Sheriff’s Office stated.
A helicopter from the Charleston County Sheriff’s Office was also deployed. The aircraft is equipped with Project Lifesaver technology, which can help locate individuals who are wearing a specialized tracking transmitter. Authorities said the aerial equipment can cover a larger area and may be able to detect Sailor’s signal more effectively despite the terrain.
Officials have asked people living nearby to check security-camera footage and look around their properties for any possible signs of Sailor.
A CodeRED alert was issued to residents in the surrounding area as authorities continue their efforts to locate the child.
‘We’re here until we find her,’ Sheriff Carter Weaver said.
Police have not commented on whether they suspect foul play or any possible abduction of the missing young girl.
