Gloria White, Keeler Township, Michigan woman murdered by her own son, Aidan Andrew White of Benton Harbor during home invasion. Victim id as Dowagiac elementary art teacher. No known motive.
A 23-year-old Michigan man has been accused of killing his own ‘art teacher’ mother during a home invasion at her Keeler Township house.
Matters came to the fore when Gloria White, 55, a resident in the Sister Lakes area called 911 just on 5.15 am, Thursday morning to report that her son was trying to break into her home.
When deputies with the Van Buren County Sheriff’s Office arrived, they found the woman who had only called them moments ago, unresponsive. Despite live-saving efforts, Gloria White ‘mortally’ succumbed to injuries she’d received the Sheriff’s Office said.
The nature and manner of the injuries was not divulged.
The suspect, 23 year old man, Aidan Andrew White, whose name the suspect’s mother had shared with cops during the ‘home invasion’ was located nearby and taken into custody.
Aidan White of Benton Harbor was charged with open murder and home invasion with bond set at $2 million, WBND reported.
On Friday, Dowagiac Union Schools officials confirmed that Gloria White was an elementary art teacher at Kincheloe and Patrick Hamilton Elementary Schools in the district.
Read a letter in part shared by Superintendent Greg Blomgren to the community: ‘As we work through grief and treasured memories of our beloved art teacher, let’s stand together and surround her classroom and building staff members with love and support.’
Gloria White had been hired to teach elementary art at Dowagiac in 2021. She graduated from Western Michigan University in 1991 and received her master’s degree in 1995.
She taught in grades pre-kindergarten through eighth grade during her career. She credited her experiences in teaching art in the Eau Claire Summer Migrant Program for sparking her interest in becoming an elementary school art teacher.
Not immediately clear is what led to the suspect killing his own mother.
Police declined to share further details as the case remained an ‘open investigation.’
