A Minnesota woman has lost her life after she valiantly ran inside her burning home to save her toddler daughter.
Bonnie Lynn Pierce, 38, was discovered shielding her toddler by firefighters according to a GoFundMe set up in her memory.
Bonnie Pierce was inside her duplex in Saint Paul, Minnesota, with two of her daughters when a fire broke out on Saturday afternoon, according to the fundraiser.
Hero mom makes ultimate sacrifice
She was able to get out while one of her daughters escaped by kicking an air conditioning unit out of a window and climbing out to safety, the fundraiser said.
But upon realizing that her other daughter, a 4-year old was still inside, the mom ran back into the burning building to find her.
Fire crews got into the duplex and found Pierce unresponsive after she had been without oxygen for 15 minutes, the fundraiser stated.
The parent sustained burns covering 48% of her body according to KSTP.
‘When firefighters entered the home, they found Bonnie shielding Grace with her own body,’ the fundraiser said. ‘Bonnie was protecting her daughter until the very end, making the ultimate sacrifice in an effort to save her child.’
Cause of blaze under investigation
The mom was rushed to hospital but died from her injuries on Monday.
Pierce leaves behind four daughters and a grandson according to KARE11.
Her daughter, whom she died protecting, remains hospitalized but is expected to make a full recovery, the fundraiser stated.
Pierce’s family is asking for help to pay medical bills, cover immediate living expenses and support her surviving children.
The cause of the fire is still under investigation by Saint Paul Fire and Saint Paul Police.
