Olga Bracero, Park Slope, Brooklyn mom stabbed to death by daughter, Kayla Wilson, struggling with mental health issues and drug use who then turned weapon on self in murder-suicide tragedy.
A Park Slope woman allegedly stabbed to death by her own daughter, who then took her own life, had expressed fearing the 23-year-old who she complained was ‘fighting demons’.
Olga Bracero, 59, had been increasingly afraid of her daughter, Kayla Wilson, 23, before the two women were found with multiple stab wounds at their Park Slope, Brooklyn address of 386 2nd Ave, between 5th and 6th aves, Saturday night.
A close neighbor, Deshawn Jackson, described Wilson as struggling with serious mental health problems, which the mother believed were made worse after the daughter used what she thought was laced marijuana during a trip to Jamaica.
Drug use and schizophrenia blamed
Jackson said Bracero had repeatedly reached out to him for help, saying her daughter was ‘fighting demons’ and hearing voices that told her to harm people the nypost reported. He also said Wilson often carried a knife and appeared increasingly unstable in the months leading up to the incident the outlet further stated.
He claimed that Wilson suffered from schizophrenia, had been in and out of hospitals and expressed the 59-year-old mom ‘would tell me that the voices in her head are telling her to do it.’
‘We ended up putting her in the hospital to get help, she was on medication,’ Jackson told the nypost. ‘She was there for two weeks.’
But then when she got out, “The mother called me and said, ‘She’s walking around the house with a knife, can you please come get her?’
Murder-suicide echoes similar tragedy on same floor two years ago
Matters came to a tragic head when on Saturday evening, police were called to the family’s Brooklyn brownstone after reports of an unresponsive woman. Officers found both women dead at the scene, each suffering multiple stab wounds. Investigators believe Wilson fatally stabbed her mother before turning the knife on herself.
Jackson said the younger woman would routinely stash the weapon in her pocket.
His daughter, Chaasadahyah, said, ‘I saw her two days ago, just walking, totally zoned out, not listening to music or nothing.’
Bracero ran a business cooking and delivering vegan foods and wrote a children’s book, ‘Maia’s Apologetic Leap: A Jamaican Frog Tale of Forgiveness.’ Earlier this month she started a GoFundMe to open a storefront after the ghost kitchen she used for her Gon’ Vegan business closed down.
Wilson wasn’t working but had ambitions, Jackson said. She got a commercial driver’s license and was hoping to write books like her mother or sing.
The grisly stabbings came two years after another murder-suicide at the co-op building which has four floors and eight apartments.
The women died in the same floor where Jason Jackson and his girlfriend, Olga Kirshenbaum, both 34, were found shot in the head in a murder-suicide on Jan 24, 2024. Cops found a handgun next to Jackson’s body, leading investigators to believe he shot Kirshenbaum, then himself.
