Monika Kubasiewicz & newborn found dead following complications from child birth in home delivery in Carrick-on-Suir, Ireland. Young family had immigrated from Poland to Ireland and had previously been living in emergency accommodation.
A mother in Ireland and her newborn baby were found dead inside their home in Carrick-on-Suir in what authorities believe may have been a medical emergency during childbirth.
Monika Kubasiewicz’s partner discovered her and a newborn baby girl in a bathroom at their home on Friday afternoon and immediately contacted emergency services.
Coroner’s report to be filed in child birth tragedy
Responding paramedics and members of Garda Síochána arrived quickly, but both Monika and the newborn were pronounced dead at the scene according to the Irish Times.
Authorities reportedly believe Monika, 33, may have suffered fatal complications while giving birth. Police have said they do not suspect foul play and are treating the deaths as a tragedy.
A postmortem examination for Monika was completed Saturday, while an examination for the baby is expected to take place this week. A coroner’s report is expected to be filed this week.
Monika Kubasiewicz had come to Ireland looking for better life
Local sources said Kubasiewicz and her family, including two children, had only recently moved into the home in Greenhill Village. The family had previously been living in emergency accommodation after a business in Clonmel failed during the Covid-19 pandemic.
Originally from Poland, they moved into the home in Carrick-on-Suir in recent months, but had lived in the country for a number of years.
Neighbors described Monika as a quiet but kind mother who leaves behind a young son and young daughter.
‘The whole town has been down… It’s terrible,’ one neighbor told Crime World. ‘Two small children waking up this morning without a mother. It’s just unbearable to even think about it.’
