Hendricks County shooting: domestic dispute leads to deaths of husband & wife

Domestic violence episode leads to Indiana couple, Brian & Laura ‘Ellie’ Branagin dead after cops respond to Danville, Hendricks County domestic dispute. Social media clues alluded to discord in married couple’s relationship. 

A domestic dispute in Danville, Hendricks County, Indiana has led to a husband and wife dying after cops fired at a suspect refusing to drop their weapon.

Hendricks County Sheriff’s deputies were called to the 600 block of East Edgewood Drive around 1 p.m., Monday, May 25 following reports of a domestic disturbance. When police arrived at the scene, they encountered a male subject outside a residence.

During the encounter, the subject exited and entered a residence several times. At one point during his interaction with law enforcement, the subject brandished a long gun and pointed it at officers.

After the subject brandished the weapon, police began to negotiate with him. The suspect’s encounter with law enforcement ended when six officers shot at him after the suspect refusing to relinquish his weapon and threatening officers according to WTHR.

After securing the scene, cops found the suspect’s wife, deceased in a grassy area near the home, the result of undisclosed ‘traumatic injuries’, FOX59 reported.

The Hendricks County Coroner identified the victim as 52-year-old woman, Laura “Ellie” Branagin, a nurse practitioner and co-owner of Total Body Wellness in Brownsburg, Indiana. Her husband, the shooting suspect was identified as Brian Branagin, 51.

Investigators reported that they were called to the scene by a relative of one of the parties involved in the domestic dispute. Neither of the individuals implicated in the initial disturbance are believed to have called law enforcement.

Social media clues point to toxic relationship

Investigators have not said whether there had been any prior domestic disturbance calls involving the couple.

The Indiana State Police is leading the investigation into the officer-involved shooting, which is standard procedure in cases involving police use of deadly force.

Some social media users cited older posts Ellie had shared on TikTok, including one quote that some believe may have hinted at personal struggles behind the scenes.

Posted Ellie, on March 15, 2024, ‘Calling my husband at work to ask if he still loves me b/c the way he brushed his teeth this morning sounded like he didn’t.’

And again, April 18, 2024, ‘Leave that toxic relationship before it makes you a motivational speaker.’

Authorities, however, have not confirmed any history of domestic violence within the relationship.

The investigation remains ongoing.
