‘Be very careful who you get involved with….’ A 19-year-old University of West Georgia (UWG) student was shot and killed Saturday afternoon in Douglasville, with the woman’s former boyfriend charged with her murder.
Deputies with the Douglas County Sheriff’s Office responding to a 911 call around 1:15 p.m. over shots fired found Lyric Latrice Farley of Carrollton dead inside her car in a parking lot behind the Dollar General on Central Church Road in Douglasville.
Investigators say Farley and David Marc’Antony Powell, 20, of Douglasville met in the area following a disagreement. Sheriff’s Office Lt.-Col. Tavarreus Pounds said Powell fatally shot Farley several times during the encounter.
Victim’s family speak out following weekend shooting tragedy
Powell who fled the scene was located at about 1:30 a.m. Sunday during a traffic stop on Interstate 20 near Highway 5 and taken into custody without incident, 11Alive reported.
Authorities impounded multiple vehicles and seized multiple guns in connection with the deadly shooting, Pounds said.
Speaking to 11Alive on Monday, the victim’s sister described Lyric as ‘very smart, big hearted.’ The sister further offered advice to women, advising them to be ‘very careful who you get involved with.’
Powell is charged with murder and aggravated assault. The former boyfriend made his first court appearance Monday afternoon, where he was remanded held without bond.
