A Rhode Island man with an allegiance towards conservative political stances and who had transitioned from male to female allegedly shot and killed his ex wife, their son and then self during an ice hockey game on Monday.
Robert Dorgan, 56, who went by the name of Roberta Esposito, had come to watch his son play for North Providence High School during Monday’s game at the Dennis M Lynch Arena in Pawtucket, about 10 minutes outside of Providence.

It was while attending the game, the father of six who had been standing at the back of the rafters of the home team descended towards the front stands and began firing at his ex wife, Rhonda Dorgan and their children.
Ronda was killed at the scene, with the couple’s son later dying at hospital. Three other individuals were critically wounded, including the shooter’s former mother-in-law and father-in-law, WCVB reported citing officials.
After having fired off 12 rounds, Robert Dorgan turned the weapon on himself, killing himself.
Witnesses at the arena told What’s Going On in Rhode Island Dorgan had entered the rink carrying two pink-colored firearms and a holster, and that some people initially believed the weapons were not real.
The suspect shooter sat near the back of the stands on the home team’s side during the game before moving to the front and opening fire at four family members and one family friend, WPRI reported.
Authorities said the violence stemmed from a family-related dispute stemming from when his wife filed for divorce upon Dorgan completing gender reassignment surgery in 2020. Officials described Monday afternoon’s shooting as an ‘isolated’ incident.
In the aftermath of the shooting, questions were asked about the gunman’s political affiliations, what he shared on social media and what triggered him to targeting family members.

A regard of the shooter’s X account, @Tgirlcuda, revealed Dorgan supporting Republicans despite his transgender identity: He backed Trump along with Rep. Thomas Massie of Kentucky and Rep. Marjorie Taylor Greene and others critical of Trump on issues like Epstein files. Dorgan urged conservatives to accept trans people while opposing extremes like youth transitions, and claimed to have six children.
The account was still active at the time of Monday afternoon’s shooting and had 969 followers and was following 205.
In a foreboding of what was to come, a day prior to Monday’s shooting, Dorgano posted on X, writing to conservative firebrand, Alex Jones about how low tolerance for transgender people is why ‘trans ppl go fkn BERSERK.’
